Foxhills Spa Garden

The garden was commissioned to provide a setting for the new leisure complex and fitness centre within the Foxhills estate near Ottershaw in Surrey. A large wall of glass provides a view over the garden space which was originally designated as a goods yard.

The new garden completed in Autumn 2009 is designed on the concept of swimming lanes, created in a rectilinear format to relate directly to the indoor swimming pool. Yew hedged “cubicles” provide private spaces where guests can relax or have an outdoor massage. Each is colour coded through the perennial planting alongside with a view out across the central lawn. The main border planting also provides privacy to each space.

A sun deck provides access from the fitness centre into the main garden where guests can have coffee and lunch, swim or plunge in a natural swimming pond, take a sauna or enjoy an outdoor jacuzzi. Views from the garden extend into the pine and birch woodland of the wider estate.

To the front of the fitness centre is a new paved piazza which includes uplit multi stemmed birch trees providing shade for outdoor dining and coffee. The trees glow with light after darkness falls.

This garden has been featured in the Garden Design Journal and The Times.
