Longcross Garden

This 1 acre garden belongs to a new build house with views out across surrounding paddocks. The garden was a blank canvass with nothing but a young Liquidambar and a few recently planting birch trees. There were also issues of flooding and poor drainage.

The design brought softer perennial planting together with some exotics to create the flavour of Thailand in places. Blocks of yew hedge create sub-divisions in the wider garden allowing planting of different character to be accommodated.

The central focus of the garden is a 40m long terrace alongside which is a sequence of pools. Close to the house and main dining terrace is a fountain pool and a lily pool planted with a range of scented water lilies. A reed pool create a spectacular transparent tunnel of light reflections and finally a bog garden completes the sequence. Low brick bridges provide access from the house and terrace to the main lawn.
