Hyde Park Hayes Piazza

This is phase one of a re-development and refurbishment in West London for Hines. The exterior landscape provides a series of spatial experiences to complement the interiors and architecture of the scheme.

The main lawned area provides a simple green space as the main arrival and access point to the reception. The lawn is spliced by wide pathways which intersect an elegant ellipse of Calamagrostis x acutiflora 'Karl Foerster'. This upstanding grass will evolve from green in the early season, through purple as it comes into flower and into ochre as the foliage and seed heads dry off into Autumn.

The main focus of the space is the seating area beneath tall, ivory bark birches.

The off set copse of Betula utilis var jacquemontii provide a grove of trees, casting light shade onto the seating area beneath. The contrast between the white Urbis containers and the dark sculptural seating echoes the grid pattern in the paving below.

This scheme won a BALI award in 2009
